Re: English: Practising
Hey, cool! Thx - i know what to do with my just-to-much-holiday-time (just one week left!!!)
Im not playing those games often, and i just have a few harry-potter (but of course, flying with a hippogriff is so cool! I love it - you can do it all the time in the tird one!) and this heureka-klett-adventure-learning games, but there difficult couse they mix all the stuff from up to six forms together (5th to 12th), so i lay them aside after a while ... (im no good loser^^)
And i DONT like point-and-click! Its so - argggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh! i just dont get it! Give a minute with one of this online point-and-click games, and ill scroll down and follow the walk through step by step if i havent since the beginning!
okay, its really not my kind of game...

So...
I'm convinced this thread died (a long time ago).
Think we should close it. If anyone has any objection, he might speak out now or remain silent forever. (^^)
No, really, does anyone has got a good topic?
(I'd be glad oif i could improve my english talking skills a bit - though i haven't got any problems with understanding, there are still difficulties in talking without using the same words and phrases - i notice this especially on deviantart.)

I really enjoy reading english books. well, actually it's not about reading english stuff, but the original book and the real sentences written by the writer. i can't stand bad translations (although some of them can suit the book. depends...)

Re: English: Practising
Me too, I enjoy reading books in their original language. Especially the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. Really, the translation is just... awful. And once I've read a book in German (I think it was "Erdsee") and I've found sentences which were neither German nor English.
And I muss state that my English skills are rather a bit rusty at the moment. Well, I should practice more before my holiday in England this year^^
Is there anyone here who speaks French?

Re: English: Practising
Je ne parle pas français. And i think i like english better - even though french is a beautiful sounding language, isn't it?
~
I like reading english books, too. I think the english language is less than complicated than the german, and i like its possibilities in grammar and phrases.
Yeah, english is actually my favourite languange.
i think - you can understand english, no matter who is speaking it, while it's rather difficult to understand german when its spoken with a great accent.
~
Like I said before, I had a wonderful one week stay in Budapest.
A beautiful city! Think i have fallen in love lately^^ like the ads say: "Budapest - a love for life".
And, while were speaking about languages (or least, i am) - hungarian is really strange - it's not like the other european languages. the hungarians came from asia, and if i remenber it right, the languange has had finnish influances, too.
But, though, nem beszélek magyarul. (= I don't speak hungarian - pronounced like "nem besselek madiarul" - nem means not; magyarul means hungarian - if i am remenbering those facs right, like i hope^^).

Re: English: Practising
@Selene: Oui, dommage. Je cherche à apprendre le français, mais sans professeur ou un cours est très defficile (pour moi).
Well, I do like the english language, but the possibilities in grammar and phrases are more or less the same than we have in german, I think? I like English, because it's a "simple" language which also has its refinement and great importance in literature - but concerning the real beauty of languages I'm more into the Romance languages like Spanish, French, Italian ...
Besides: There are some tricky English accents, too.

Re: English: Practising
Yeah, but im trying to say... german is always so complicated. And when youre trying to translate some english phrases to german, it sounds just ... well, lets say, not good^^; or is much longer than the english one.
And i (personally) dont like the hard consonants, and the "r"^^
Ive never heard those languages in action^^, but i think theyre kind of to fast. Or i just dont like all the very latin like languages^^
yes, of course - nobody is perfect, isnt he? =)
Has anyone ever read Carrols "Alice in Wonderland"? A masterpiece - by someone who really mastered all possibilities of language!
(By the way, the key under the one with the + is not working, so the single " is missing - like in "don_t". Please forgive me^^)
